Abstract: Gingivectomy is frequently performed on patients with gingival hyperplasia and hypertrophy. This operation is a fundamental periodontal surgery and is relatively simple to perform. Precautions include the cutting angle of the external oblique incision and the trimming of the gingival shape after resection, among other important factors. As surgical concepts evolve, numerous new technologies are being applied in gingivectomy. This paper discusses the concept, indications, procedures, and recent research developments related to gingivectomy. Its aim is to provide surgical references and educational insights for stomatologists, while also establishing a theoretical foundation for the practice of gingivectomy.
