Abstract: Objective: To explore the use of hierarchical progressive teaching method with formative assessment system to improve the effectiveness of standardized training for general dentistry residents. Methods: Fifteen residents and ten instructors from September 2021 to September 2022 who participated in the standardized training base of general dentistry in the General Department of Peking University Stomatology Hospital were selected for the study. A questionnaire was used to evaluate the effectiveness of the teaching model and the evaluation system. Results: All residents had good teaching results in 1 year training. More than 85% of the residents and teachers rated the hierarchical progressive teaching of each specialty as “very appropriate” or “appropriate”. Conclusions: The teaching model established in this study, which combines hierarchical progressive teaching and formative evaluation system, has achieved good teaching results in our standardized training for stomatological general residents base and provides a new idea for the teaching reform of standardized dental training.
