Abstract: Guided tissue regeneration is an important technique for achieving periodontal tissue regeneration, which utilizes barrier membranes to isolate gingival epithelium and connective tissues while stabling the microenvironment for periodontal ligament cells. This approach enables the functional regeneration of the integrated cementum-periodontal ligament-alveolar bone complex. Predictable regeneration results require strict case selection criteria, defect-specific incision design, precise debridement of graft sites, and optimal membrane positioning. This article mainly introduces the steps and key points of guided tissue regeneration, and briefly reviews the progress of the surgery, aiming to provide a reference for medical students, general dentists, and periodontal specialists.
